In a new twist in the infamous
Dingerheri gang rape of two girls, two murders and robbery case of Mewat
district, the CBI has submitted a supplementary chargesheet against three more
accused, in which one is the serving army jawan. Earlier CBI had submitted chargesheet
against four members of ‘axle gang’ for their committing the crime, whereas the
SIT of Haryana Police had arrested four local youth; who are currently on
interim bail from High Court. Adding twist to the case the victim girls’ plea
through senior Advocate Salman Khursid for cancellation of interim bail is also
pending before Supreme Court.
“Now, total 11 accused are bound to face
trial before special CBI judge Jagdeep Singh at Panchkula. However, initially
the FIR had been registered only against 4-5 unknown persons.” Said
Advocate Pardeep Kumar Rapria; who is the counsel for the youths arrested
earlier by SIT Haryana. Curiously enough; the charge sheet mentions
the status of accused as: ‘Not Arrested’, though the addresses and whereabouts
of all accused have been established, in which one is ‘Signal Man’ in Army.
The case had hit the international
headlines, when on the intervening night of August 24-25, 2016; a family in
Dingerheri was attacked. A Muslim couple was killed and several members of
their family were injured and a 21-year-old woman and 16-year-old girl from the
family were raped.
As per the supplementary
chargesheet, submitted on January 23, all eleven accused have been charged for
murders, attempt to murder, gang rape, robbery and Protection of Children from Sexual
Offences (POSCO) Act. Total eight accused also appeared before the special CBI court
on Thursday and the copy of chargesheet was supplied to them. Then the CBI
Court summoned the three freshly added accused namely Amit Yadav of Nakdolia ki
Dhani, Mohammadpur Ahir, Ravinder Yadav alias Fauzi from, village Goyla Nandu
ki Dhani and Tejpal Yadav of village Baganki, to appear before court on
February 14, who can be sent to judicial custody if not released on bail.
The case was initially
registered on August 25, 2016 by Haryana police and the state police had
claimed big success in the case, after they arrested four local youths within
four days of the crime.
However, there was resentment
among the villagers who claimed that the arrested youth were not involved in
the crime after which the case was sent to CBI for probe. Finally on December
5, 2016 CBI had taken over the investigation of the case.
This is the third chargesheet
against in the same case, as earlier the Haryana police had submitted a charge
sheet in November 2016 for the same offence against four boys including
Sandeep, Amarjeet, Karamjeet and Rahul Verma, all residents of Mohammadpur Ahir
village of Mewat. Then CBI submitted second supplementary chargesheet against
the four members of excel gang. Now, three more accused have been added. These accused, however, have been claiming innocence in the
main case and had already filed an application before the special CBI court for
discharging them from the case.
“The fresh charge sheet against members of
‘axle gang’ supported by the matching of their DNA with the DNA profile
collected from the private parts and clothes of rape victims and their finger
prints has proved the innocence of these seven local youths. The names of the
local youths have been added only on the statement of the victim family
members. It has also exposed how unreliable the police can be when it comes to
investigating grave crimes amidst a public outcry and close media scrutiny,” said Advocate Pardeep Rapria.
Earlier during the
investigation by SIT Haryana, the lie detection test of four local youths was
also conducted, in which no deception was detected.
